The Secretary to the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) Board, Abu-bakarr Sheriff Esq, and 42 senior road safety officials from seven African countries concluded an Executive Leadership Road Safety Course in Mombasa, Kenya, on Friday 7 November 2025.
The 2025 Road Safety Leadership Course was conducted by the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s International Injury Research Unit, the Global Road Safety Partnership and the Initiative for Global Road Safety, with support from the Bloomberg Philanthropies.
The on-line and in-person training, which commenced in September onto November this year, accorded participants a learning platform for leadership development, knowledge sharing and strategic planning with a strong focus on evidence-based policymaking, behavioural change, and data-driven solutions.
Lawyer Abu-bakarr Sheriff was among graduants of the third cohort of the leadership course aimed at “building leadership capacity to design, advocate for, and implement effective road safety programmes and policies.”
According to Abu-bakarr Sheriff Esq., the intensive road safety course provided him with the theoretical knowhow and practical skills of tackling road safety challenges and gaps, adding that the knowledge gained from experienced tutors and interactions with road safety experts and actors across the continent would enhance his capability to support actionable solutions to myriad road safety burdens.
“The course has enriched my understanding of the various theoretical frameworks to road safety management and administration, as well as equipped me with strategic leadership skills on how to engage various partners towards a mutually desired goal of reducing road accident trauma and burden,” said Sheriff Esq.
He thanked the organisers, sponsors and SLRSA Executive Director, James B. Bio, for the opportunity to participate in the course. He noted that he stood ready to share knowledge gained with his colleagues and compatriots.
