Dr Ibrahim Bangura, the expected Flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC) for the 2028 Presidential Election, concluded the first phase of his nationwide “meet-the-delegates” tour on Sunday in Port Loko District after visiting Bo and Kenema in the south and east respectively.
With his signature campaign of “Heal, Unite, and Build”; Dr Bangura told an unbelievable crowd of hundreds of thousands of APC faithful at the Coronation Field in Bo that, “I am seeking the leadership of the APC because I have the capacity to unite [the] party. Without peace and discipline, it will be difficult for us to win in 2028. I want to restore respect for party structures and encourage members to work together.”
Unlike some of his fellow contestants who have made hate and division their signature tunes, he stated that, “The APC needs the full support of the South-East, not just as an add-on but as a key pillar to victory. Without that support, returning to power will be extremely difficult.”
Dr Ibrahim Bangura, who is a peace and conflict expert and a lecturer at Fourah Bay College (FBC), noted that both the APC and the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) should see each other as partners in development not enemies. “Sierra Leone can only move forward if our two major political parties work in the national interest. We must see ourselves as brothers and sisters, not adversaries,” he said.
The event was marked by cultural displays, jubilation, and solidarity from party loyalists across the south.
In Lunsar on Sunday 24 August 2025, in Port Loko District, a huge crowd turned out to welcome Dr Ibrahim Bangura as he arrived to continue his engagement with party executives across the district.
He told the crowds that, “In Bo, I listened to fellow Sierra Leoneans from Bonthe, Moyamba, Pujehun, and the concerns are the same as yours here in Lunsar and the rest of the mighty Port Loko District—you need a Leader with sympathy and capacity to deliver for ordinary citizens. That’s why I’m in this race for a stronger APC and a better country.”
One of the major highlights of the Lunsar engagement was the declaration for Dr Bangura by Hon. Baimaro Kombo Kamara, the 2023 APC Elections Campaign Chairman, who said “Dr Ibrahim Bangura is the best candidate to return APC to State House [in 2028].
