At a closed door emergency meeting yesterday (Wednesday) at the Freetown Old Railway Line headquarters of the All People’s Congress (APC), members who were duly elected in the just concluded June 24 multi-tier elections as Mayors, District Chairpersons, Members of Parliament, and Councillors committed themselves to the party’s stance.

The APC, in a press statement dated 30 June 2023, declared “its non-participation in any level of governance, including the legislature and local councils, as the results have already been tampered with to give the SLPP [Sierra Leone People’s Party] an unjust majority at all levels”.

So, the emergency meeting called yesterday by the National Advisory Council of the party (the highest decision–making body) was to get the commitment of the elected Mayors, District Chairperson, the 54 Members of Parliament, and Councillors to be on the same page with the party.

The major highlight of yesterday’s emergency meeting was the signing of a document by all the elected APC members to seal their commitment to the party’s stance.

It could be recalled that the APC is insisting “on a rerun of the elections within six months to be overseen by credible individuals and institutions who will ensure a fair and transparent process.”
