The leading All People’s Congress (APC) candidate for the Port Loko District Council chairmanship Sheku Tejan Saccoh and his running-mate, Musa Idriss Kanu aka SAJ, last weekend painted the township  of Masiaka red (figuratively).

The two formally declared their intention to run for such positions in the June 24 2023 general elections.

Sheku Tejan Saccoh is reported to have a distinguished career in community development, serving as consultant for many projects which have earned him a wealth of experience over the years. He served as Councillor from 2012 to 2018 under the APC in Constituency 077 in Lungi Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom his birthplace.

In his statement, he said that the APC needed a team that was young and vibrant like him and his running-mate to enable the party wins the 2023 general elections. He predicted that the next president of Sierra Leone would be Dr Samura M.W. Kamara.

Mr Saccoh has chosen Councillor Musa Idriss Kanu of Ward 258 in Constituency 072 as his running-mate. He also brings into the race a wealth of experience having served the Council for the past five years and also an indigene of Masiaka.

He said he decided to partner with Musa Idriss Kanu because he was a down-to-earth man who has his people at heart.

Whilst addressing Ward Coordinators and other Constituency executive members in the nine constituencies that make up the District, Skehu Tejan Saccoh said his desire to lead the Council was to fast-track development and influence many projects for the benefits of all.

He said gone were the days when those who should lead the people were chosen by a single individual. “Power belongs to you the people, as you are the reason the party was able to organize a successful delegates’ conference”. He promised, if awarded the party’s symbol, to provide skills trainings for the youth who, he said, should not survive on handouts.

Speakers after speakers endorsed Mr Saccoh’s candidacy to transform the Port Loko District Council.
