The Coalition for Change (C4C) Member of Parliament for Constituency 028, Koidu City in eastern Sierra Leone, Hon. Sahr Charles, was among the MPs to register their dismay over the unprecedented rise in mobile phone data tariffs.
In one of their sittings last week in the chamber of Parliament, Hon. Sahr Charles explained that about a week or so ago the country, in the midst of economic hardships, experienced high increases in mobile data tariffs.
He informed the House that such astronomical increase was not only a serious concern to the people but also to them as MPs as it was also affecting them. He noted that the mobile phone companies should not be given the latitude to make increments for themselves.
Hon. Sahr Charles therefore called on the Ministry of Information and Communications and NATCOM, through the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Information, to explain to them with regards to the data increments.
The chairman of the Information Committee, Hon. Boston Munda, promised to make a follow-up with regards to the concerns raised by his colleague MP.
