Honourable Ibrahim Barrie, one of the representatives from Bombali District in northern Sierra Leone, on Wednesday in the Chamber of Parliament made a significant submission calling on House Speaker, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, to investigate the alarming trend of detaining individuals from the Fullah tribe within the country.
This submission has sparked discussions on human rights, ethnic relations, and the role of law enforcement in Sierra Leone.
In his submission, the Bombali MP referenced section 18 in the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone Act No 6, which guarantees freedom of movement.
The Fullah tribe, known for their rich cultural heritage and significant contributions to the agricultural and trade sectors in Sierra Leone, has recently faced scrutiny and challenges that have raised concerns among human rights advocates and community leaders.
