Dr Williette P.R.O James was on Tuesday approved by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee to serve as Chairperson on the Board of Trustees of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC).

The approval came about after the House debated and unanimously approved the Sixteen Report of the Committee of Appointments and Public Service, chaired by the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Nyuma.

Hon. Bashiru Silikie, the Deputy Majority and Leader of Government, commended President Julius Maada Bio for nominating Dr James and others to various positions of trust.

He warned appointees to serve in the interest of the nation, adding that they should open their doors to Members of Parliament (MPs) and the general public in order to support national development.

In rounding up the debate the Opposition Leader, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, commended President Bio for the good appointments and encouraged all to be nationalistic in nominating Sierra Leoneans to serve.

Hon. Kargbo highlighted the role of the Board of the SLBC and went on to do comparative analyses in the sub-region in terms of establishment and broadcasting. “Sierra Leone broadcasting has been the oldest in the West African sub-region”, he affirmed. He called for more transformative ways of the SLBC from analog to digital.

The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, advised the nominees to work in line with President Bio’s agenda and wished them well in their new endeavours.
