The Sierra Leone Parliament on Tuesday approved two presidential nominees: Edmond Benjamin Nonie as proposed Deputy Minister II of the Ministry of Energy and Matilda Matu Kombo as the proposed Member Board of Directors Audit Service Sierra Leone.

During the approval of the appointees in the well of parliament, the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Matthew Sahr Nyuma, stated that Edmond Benjamin Nonie was an energy expert, innovation specialist, project manager, and serial entrepreneur, with ten years’ experience in project development and drone science. He noted that he had no doubt that he was fit to serve as Deputy Minister II.

On Matilda Matu Kombo, proposed Member Board of Directors Audit Service Sierra Leone, Hon. Nyuma Board said she was a professional accountant, financial manager with the ability to work proficiently under pressure. He added that she was self-motivated and result-oriented in her area of study and that she was a member of the Association of Chartered and Classified Accountants (ACCA) and is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants –Sierra Leone (ICASL).

The Leader of the Opposition, Hon Abdul Kargbo in his submission, stated that once the presidential appointees had been approved; it was their responsibility to serve Sierra Leone and not their political party.  He added that if the two appointees perform well, “all of us will benefit” but that if they didn’t then it meant the President did not appoint the right people.

The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Thomas in his final submission, stated that the Seventeenth Report of the Sixth Parliament on the Committee on Appointments be adopted by the House.
