The President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, has returned from Washington DC, USA, after attending the fifth International Debate Best Practices Symposium which was held from 20–22 September 2023.

The symposium, jointly organized by Debates International, The Commission on Presidential Debates, and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), brought together new and long-standing members of the Debates International network from all corners of the globe who shared their latest experiences in organizing and producing candidate debates, including common challenges and solutions.

In addition to sharing his experience in all the discussions, the SLAJ President participated as a commentator in the specific panel on ‘Building a Debate Culture – Experiences with Non-Election Debates’ along with other panelists from The Gambia, Malawi, Hindouras, and Mexico.

Also, the SLAJ President met with officials pioneering the establishment of the Kingdom of Kush at the One World Trade Center in New York.

The pan- African Kingdom of Kush is situated somewhere between Egypt and South Sudan.

Ahmed Sahid Nasralla is expected to serve as Ambassador for the Kingdom of Kush and to help seek the Government of Sierra Leone’s recognition of the Kingdom as a sovereign state and forge bilateral relations which will bring investment in the small West African country in the areas of Agriculture and Education among others.

Nasralla attended the event as the Chairman of the National Political Debates Committee (NPDC) in Sierra Leone.
