The International Law Book Facility (ILBF) last Friday donated about 19 boxes with a total of 163 Law books in various fields to the Ministry of Justice at their Guma Building, Lamina Sankoh Street, office in Freetown.
The books were handed over to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohamed Lamin Tarawalley Esq, and the Solicitor General Robert Kowa, by Momo Turay the Country Director of the UK Sierra Leone Pro Bono Network (UKSLPBN) in Sierra Leone, at a press conference.
Handing over the books, Momo Turay noted that the main purpose of the donation was “to share legal knowledge across the legal communities of the world and thereby to support the rule of law and access to justice in Sierra Leone”.
Mr Turay stated that, “The ILBF is delighted to support law libraries in Sierra Leone with legal resources from the UK”, adding that “the ILBF hopes to continue to support legal institutions and universities in Sierra Leone in this regard”.
He concluded that, “The UK Sierra Leone Pro Bono Network (UKSLPBN) and her partners will continue to explore and utilize opportunities for capacity building, skills transfer and experience sharing for justice sector actors and legal learning institutions in Sierra Leone”.
Receiving the books on behalf of the Justice Ministry the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohamed Lamin Tarawalley Esq, appreciated the donation stating that “we will make good use of the books”.
He noted that the Law Officers’ Department library, which had been a source for reference books by both Law students and legal practitioners over the years, would once again be that centre of attraction. He thanked the donors for the donation and hoped for future collaboration.
Lawyer Robert Kowa, the Solicitor General, whilst giving the Vote of Thanks assured UKSLPBN that the books would be used for their intended purposes.
