Finally, the eagle has landed. The much awaited, the much-anticipated, and the cliff-hanger announcement was eventually made yesterday at the Freetown Brookfields headquarters of the All People’s Congress (APC).
It’s now official that the Leader of the APC in Parliament, Honourable Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah aka Chericoco, will be the running mate to the APC 2023 Presidential Candidate, Dr Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara.
The announcement was made yesterday by Dr Samura Kamara after consultation with the National Advisory Committee (NAC), the second highest decision making body of APC, in accordance with Section 57 of the 2022 APC Constitution.
According to inside sources, out of five women and six men who had shown interest in becoming Dr Samura Kamara’s running mate, Hon. ‘Chericoco’ was chosen because of his wide appeal to the party’s youths and grassroots.
Honourable ‘Chericoco’ is representing Constituency 126 in the Western Urban. He was born on 29 April 1972 at Wilberforce in the Western Area. He is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court.
He has served in the well of Parliament as the deputy Speaker of Parliament. He was elected Member of Parliament for Constituency 126 Western Area Urban in 2007. Having represented his people and with the good work he did, he was called upon again to serve them in 2012. His advocacy and contributions in the well of Parliament after the 2012 elections did not go unnoticed as he was elected deputy speaker of the House of Parliament.
Honourable Chernor Bah believes in the principles of the All People’s Congress and his contributions in the two terms of office were great. The people of Constituency 126 realised his good work as they believe that he is the only fitted candidate to represent them. With their call he contested for the Member of Parliament role for constituency 126 in 2018. He was faced with many challenges but was able to overcome it and became successful in winner the March 2018 elections.
He is currently in the well of Parliament advocating on issues that are of national interest and can help change the standard of living of Sierra Leoneans.
The following were identified by honourable Chernor Bah as constituency needs: schools, electricity, pipe-borne water, good roads, health centres and clinics and he is doing his best to ensure that these needs are addressed.
Honourable Chernor Bah is a Member of three committees in the House of Parliament: the Legislative Committee, Appointment and Public service Committee and Ethics Committee.
