Njala University has completed matriculation for more than 6,000 undergraduate freshman women and men who were accepted into various programmes for the 2022/2023 academic year.

The two-day ceremony, which began on Thursday 26 January at Njala Campus and ended on Saturday 28 January 2023 at Bo Campus, was intended to formally recognize new students as legal members of the University. During which they registered their names in the University register after taking an oath to obey the University’s Statutes, Regulations, and Rules.

The matriculation oath administered by the University’s Registrar, Dr Muneer Jalloh, and the announcement by Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, officially admitting the new students to membership of Njala University was the ceremony’s most significant moments.

The matriculants were admonished by Professor Alieu Mohamed Bah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Njala Campus, to consider themselves fortunate for being accepted into Njala University and to manage fine with the modest amenities provided at his Campus.

Professor Bah urged the new students to be disciplined, obedient to University rules and regulations, and to avoid undesirable practices and unseemly behaviour because their degrees will be granted based on their moral character and academic achievement.

Professor Mohamed Syed Fofanah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Bo Campus and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Njala University, welcomed the new students to his Campus and urged them to always do their share to enhance the University’s image.

“Today, as you officially start the next stage of your educational career, I want you to focus, and realise that in front of you, like a winding road, lie tremendous opportunities and experiences that will define your university experience and set you on the path of your professional and personal life. Indeed, to a large extent, these opportunities and experiences will determine your direction for the rest of your life,” Professor Fofanah told the freshmen.

In his keynote address, Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, thanked the new students for choosing the University and said that their decision to enroll demonstrates their confidence in the quality of teaching and innovative learning in the University’s delivering mechanism.

“Today is a very important day in your academic journey as you will be admitted into the role of a member of the ‘Great Njala University’. Great in the sense that she is the first to reckon on with and the mother of higher education in Sierra Leone in terms of Ranking of Universities in Sierra Leone,” said Professor Bashiru Koroma.

He used the occasion to thank the Ministries of Health and Technical and Higher Education for ensuring to upgrade the Njala University hospital to a status of a referral and teaching hospital.

He told the newcomers that his Administration was working hard to change the narrative of providing some basic social services and amenities on the University Campuses.
