The parents and relatives of Billy Jalloh, who was born on 2 May 1991, are said to be very concerned about the whereabouts of their son and nephew, who mysteriously disappeared from the shores of Sierra Leone in recent months after he allegedly received several death threats from some members of the Poro Society.
Our investigations reveal that Billy Jalloh was known for his activism against traditional secret societies to the point that he was said to have attracted the attention of some politicians who wanted to end his career because he was speaking against some of their traditional values.
Matters reportedly came to a head when Billy Jalloh, early this year, decided to speak about the conduct of the Poro Society in Sierra Leone. His outspokenness resulted to him being marked for assassination by unknown assailants.
That led him to go underground and since then his whereabouts are still unknown. “His safety cannot be assured,” said a relative.
