All the current 59 Members of Parliament of the All People’s Congress (APC) yesterday at Committee Room No.1 in the House of Parliament, Tower Hill in Freetown, unanimously endorsed Dr Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara as the flagbearer of the APC for the June 2023 presidential election.

These latest endorsements came less than two weeks after over 20 former ministers and deputy ministers, in the erstwhile government of ex-President Ernest Bai Koroma, endorsed him at a ceremony at the party’s Old Railway Line Brookfields headquarters in Freetown.

The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Chernor M. Bah, said his support for Dr Samura Kamara continued to increase since he endorsed him in Kambia some years ago.

He explained that the endorsement was a clear manifestation of the confidence they had in Dr Samura Kamara.  He continued that the event was coming from the bottom of their hearts and that nobody forced them to do so.

Hon. Chernor M. Bah also spoke on the support of the old Parliamentarians to guide them throughout these years which enabled them to thrive in one accord.

According to him, the event was a manifestation of real democracy as it was their right to take a position and declare for whosoever they want to lead them as it happened in the USA and other modern democracies because they were also delegates.

He said they believed that Dr Samura Kamara was not only a democrat but a principled man. He noted that an economic problem required an economist to solve it and that the “other people” promised the nation “bread and butter” but that now the country was heading for economic doom.

In response, Dr Samura Kamara commended all the parliamentarians for their efforts and the organizers. He informed his audience that the country was currently the most challenged nation to live as those in governance had reduced the people to brutal economic hardships.

Dr Samura Kamara reminded them that the battle for 2023 was not as common as some might think but required common endeavours to achieve their desired goal—which is State House.

He stated that even if anyone did not like him as a person but they should not hate the party, adding that he had prepared for the battle ahead as the APC had to deliver the country from the current mess which the SLPP government had put it into.

Dr Samura Kamara concluded that the event showed that the prosperity of the APC was assured and that they should not lose sight of the eventual victory in June this year.

The Opposition Whip, Hon Hassan A. Sesay, said MPs should not only endorse Dr Samura Kamara but must also take ownership of his campaign.

Hon. Sesay stated that Dr Samura Kamara was not only ready to serve but was modest, humble, and ready to lead not only the APC but the nation at large.

The event was chaired by Hon. Sallieu Osman Sesay alias SOS, the Caucus leader of Bombali District.
