The All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament for Constituency 052 in Tonkolili District, northern Sierra Leone, Hon. Dr Abdulai Daniel Sesay, has joined the discussion on the inflow of harmful drugs in the country.
He explained that a lot of drugs were coming to the country from various entering points which were poorly manned by security personnel. He stated that the situation at the moment warranted a multi-sectoral approach to curb not only the menace but those who were coming with harmful drugs into the country.
Hon. Dr Abdulai Daniel Sesay continued that young people in various constituencies were being used to wreck havoc during political activities through the influence of harmful drugs.
According to him, more people were at the Kissy Mental Home due to the consumption of drugs. He maintained that collective work was required to save the lives of the youth who the nation largely depended upon to take over after them.
He insisted that the level of drugs intake in the country among the youth was destroying the country’s future, adding that security personnel along the country’s borders must be able to conduct frequent and robust patrols.
The ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Alusine Kanneh whose sub-committee started the conversation and made serious recommendations, called for urgent action to curb the proliferation of harmful drugs in the country. He also spoke on the misconduct of drivers and their involvement in drugs intake which had been discovered by the police.
The Opposition Whip, Hon. Hassan A. Sesay, said the Committee’s chairman had raised a serious concern on the circulation of drugs in the country and that the question of drugs did not lie on the shoulders of law enforcement bodies alone but every well-meaning Sierra Leonean.
