Lawyer Boniface Sidikie Kamara has told The Nationalist newspaper in an exclusive interview, at his Sanders Street office in Freetown, that he has what it takes to be the National Organizing Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC).
“Why do I stand out as the best candidate for the position? I will be coming as a new person even though I have been around the party for over 25 years. I will be giving a new face to the party internally and externally. A clean character with no blemish professionally and politically; a character who has not conflicted within the party; meaning, both the older and younger people in the party believe in me because I have not been in conflict with any of the factions within the party,” notes Lawyer Boniface.
He states that, “I am a character coming from three Class A districts of the party: Bombali, Tonkolili and Port Loko. And in all of these districts, I maintain a cordial relationship between the young and old. So, I’m the lesser evil from which every faction in the party may want to work with”.
Lawyer Boniface Sidikie Kamara discloses that in 1996, he acted as a Polling Agent for the APC, and that between 2005 and 2007 he was already the Organizing Secretary of APC students at Fourah Bay College (FBC).
When the APC lost the Presidential Election in 2018, he says, that’s when his selflessness to the party became noticeable. In 2019, when 23 people in Kono were arrested after the 2018 elections, it was only him who went to Kono to represent them from Magistrate to High Court until they were set free. In the same 2019, when the entire executive of Constituency 92 in Bonthe District was held for 28 days, it was only him who went there and ensured that they had their freedom.
Between 2018 and 2022, Lawyer Boniface Sidikie Kamara did 13 matters all related to APC versus the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). “I also won them all and ensured our comrades were free”, he reveals. Added to that, in Bo between 2021 and 2022 the APC Youth Leader in Constituency 080 was arrested just for promoting the legacy of former President Ernest Bai Koroma; again it was Lawyer Boniface who went on the rescue. “In this instance, not even the National Youth Leader of the APC could render help,” he recalls.
In July 2020, when some youths in Makeni were gunned down whilst protesting against the relocation of the township’s generator; it was Lawyer Boniface Sidikie Kamara who ensured that the corpses were handed over to the families for befitting burials. “In this case, I had to make an undertaking to the police that if anything went wrong during the funerals, I would be held responsible,” he reveals.
When the late Zulai Cooper and 21 others were arrested in 2018 at the APC’s Old Railway Line headquarters in Freetown, it was him who represented them and ensured that they were all free. And recently, after the by-election at Constituency 058 in Tonkolili, a 58-year-old woman was arrested and charged to court on electoral offences. She was incarcerated for 48 days, it was Lawyer Boniface Sidikie Kamara who represented her and ensured her eventual freedom.
On 8 August 2022, about 13 youths of Makeni, who were socializing at an Ataya Base, were arrested, locked up and charged to court. It was Lawyer Boniface again who represented them.
“In all of these, what is fundamental is the fact that nobody paid me a single cent for my representation. I did all of that for the love I have for the party. And all of these are not far from the role of an Organizing Secretary. So, if I can run the length and breathe of the country without anybody giving me a cent; it means that I am capable of organizing the activities of the APC for a victory in 2023,” he concludes.
