Desmond Kanu, President of Old Makeni Franciscans Association (OMFA), has donated Le25,000,000 to the School Sanitation Project at St. Francis Secondary School, Makeni.
The cash donation was formally presented to the OMFA Financial Secretary, Samuel Yusuf Tarawally, for upgrading the current sanitation facilities and also addressing challenges for current pupils of the school.
The project seeks to create a cleaner, healthier, and more dignified learning environment that supports both academic success and wellbeing of pupils.
The fundraising committee praised Ing. Desmond Ray Kanu’s gesture as a powerful reminder of the importance of giving back.
“When we invest in our alma mater, we invest in the next generation. Improved sanitation means fewer illnesses, better attendance, and stronger academic results. That is how real community development starts—right here at home,” President Desmond said.
The committee noted that St. Francis Secondary School had produced many professionals who were now serving across Sierra Leone and beyond. Supporting the school’s infrastructure, they said, was one of the most direct ways alumni could contribute to long-term development in Makeni and the wider community.
The committee is now appealing to all other OMFA members to follow this example and support the project.
The committee emphasised that Ing. Desmond Kanu had set the pace which, they believed, others must follow. They therefore, call on every old boy and supporter of St. Francis to come onboard.
All donations will go directly towards the construction, repair, and maintenance of sanitation facilities at St. Francis Secondary School.
